Legal Battles and Innovations: Elon Musk’s Claims Against OpenAI and Klarna’s AI Strategy at Mobile World Congress 2025

Judge Denies Musk’s Motion to Halt OpenAI’s For-Profit Shift

In a significant ruling in the tech world, U.S. District Court Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers has dismissed Elon Musk's request for an injunction aimed at stopping OpenAI's planned transition to a for-profit organization. According to a recent Bloomberg report, the court found that Musk had not provided sufficient evidence to justify such a drastic move.

“It’s a monumental day for AI as we see legal precedence being established,” said legal expert and tech analyst Rachel Green. Judge Rogers did express willingness to expedite a trial based on Musk's claims regarding the legality of OpenAI's switch. "Irreparable harm is incurred when the public’s money is used to fund a non-profit’s conversion into a for-profit," she stated.

This ruling comes amid Musk's ongoing lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman. Musk's contention is that the AI research firm has strayed from its original mission to make AI accessible for everyone. Notably, just weeks prior, Musk attempted an unsolicited takeover of OpenAI with a staggering $97.4 billion bid—an offer that was swiftly rejected by the company's board.

As OpenAI moves forward, industry watchers speculate about the future landscape of AI development, with many considering Musk's actions as potential obstacles in OpenAI’s endeavours to adopt a conventional corporate structure.

Klarna CEO Refutes Idea of SaaS Replacement by AI

Sebastian Siemiatkowski, the founder and CEO of Klarna, recently took to social media platform X to clarify elated discussions after the company opted to replace Salesforce's flagship CRM product with its in-house AI system. While acknowledging the radical change, he stressed that he doesn't foresee or advocate for other companies to follow suit.

“In my humble opinion, this doesn’t spell the end of Salesforce. It could very well be the opposite,” he noted, as he reflected on Klarna's significant operational changes made over the past year. The fintech powerhouse managed to eliminate 700 full-time contract employees, saving an astounding $40 million annually after developing its own AI infrastructure based on OpenAI's ChatGPT.

However, Salesforce co-founder Marc Benioff raised eyebrows by questioning how Klarna manages its customers' data within the new internal system.

“We did not replace SaaS with an LLM,” Siemiatkowski clarified. Instead, he revealed their approach involved consolidating data from various SaaS systems, including Salesforce, into a customized tech stack. He highlighted the use of Neo4j’s graph database in the process.

"Using this rich repository of knowledge allows our internal AI to generate insights that lead to rapid deployment of fresh interfaces," Siemiatkowski explained. This scenario brings us back to the age-old debate in enterprise software: whether to build or buy.

While Siemiatkowski remains skeptical that most companies will opt to craft their own AI-centric platforms, he predicts a wave of consolidation in the SaaS industry going forward.
